  1. No offense, but you may want to go and apply somewhere, and get a traditional job.

Tutoring/teaching is a gift, you share your time, talents, and knowledge with others, it is not something to do just because you need money,

To tutor a child, or several children you need to have have some knowledge of the subject material that these children are needing the guidance in, and if you do not have enough knowledge in these subject(s), it is your responsibility to get it, so you can provide the service you are going to be compensated for.

If you have no idea where to start, than please leave the tutoring to someone who does, until you are prepared to do the job adequately.

  2. You hafta ask him what he doesn't understand in his school work, or his weaker subjects and chapters. I mean, that's what tutoring is all about right? Helping you on the subjects you're not so good at.

  3. There is a difference between teaching a tutoring.

Teaching is doing the full lesson construction and planning and taking a child from a specific start date in a curriculum and moving them systematically to a completion date in it. In this version you are more in charge of curriculum decisions.

Tutoring is where you jump in to help where help is needed. You might be needed for a few hours one week on a tough topic, but then not be called on again for a month. In this one, the family (ies) have selected their own curriculum and you fit in to what they have chosen and when you are to help out.

Decide which style you are. If you are aiming mor eto be a teacher, then once you have selected the curriculum it will be the spine for what your content will be. If a tutor, then become familiar with the curriculums in use by your client so on any particular lesson you are called in on you know the scope of that lesson, where the student will have been, and where the student will be going in that curriculum. Then you know the student's knowledge coming in to that topic and how deep to go into a particular topic for a student using that curriculum.

  4. what does he need help in

    Test and evaluate

Have him do a variety of math

    Have him write an essay

    Have him read out loud

    Discuss Earth Science with him

You should quickly appraise his strong and weak point.

  5. are you tutoring in a certain subject??? A tutor helps a child learn things that he is lacking in. Find out where the child is in that subject and go from there.

  6. Bone up on the fourth grade syllabus. Start with whatever he is supposed to be studying. After you feel him out about absorption, you can go wider.
