Help making international phone call...?

I am trying to make an international phone call from the US to London, but the call does not seem to be going through. The number listed on the website is: 0871 376 9038

I know that you dial:

011 (international prefix)

44 (country code)

but i don't know where to go from there..please help..thanks!

Drop the leading 0 in the number.

Dial: 011 - 44 -871 - 376 - 9038

If you are dialing from cell phone, can also try:

[phone]

(beware, calling international from many cell phones is VERY EXPENSIVE)

General note on European numbers:

In most EU countries leading "0" is dialed to indicate a long distance call similarly to dialing "1" in the US. So you don't have to dial it when calling from overseas. Think of it the way American web sites publish numbers: 1-800-x*x-yyyy. It's just the way you dial it from within the country. Coincidently, US' country code is "1", but that is not the point here....

The l-o-n-g number I dial from USA is COUNTRY CODE, then the CITY CODE and then the HOUSE NUMBER.

My family has sets of numbers ranging from 6 digits - to 9 digits long.

I know that AT&T has such a fun time trying to list all these length-changing sets of numbers on my telephone bill.

You are on the right track -- dial the entire number:

011 44 0871 376 9038  The call should go right through.

I discovered this problem too (from Toronto to London) and found out that you also need to know where exactly in London you call calling. For example, if the individual is in Heathrow, you need to find out that code as well. The first pages of the phone book/directory will give you those codes.

But then again, if it's on a website listing, then you have everything you need...you're not wrong then, it's probably just the phone lines.
