Help making iphone ringtones?

i just got my iphone restored and a new computer now i know how to make the ringtones and all that but when i drag the song from itunes to the desktop it doesnt show the .m4a. in the songs file name so theres no way for me to change it i tried just typing in m4r but doesnt work also when i drag it to the desktop its listed under a quicktime mov file please help me
