Help me, I want to go into a good college.?

During my freshman and sophomore year, i scored decently...

I'm very dissapointed in myself because i never tried and got caught up with highschool drama that I realized never mattered. I scored in the 70's ranges both years.

Towards the end of my sophomore year, I discovered all of my potential once I dedicated my

time for school rather than socializing. I would get 100's on my exams.

This year, I plan to put all socializing, and highschool drama aside.

Keep note, once I dedicate myself to something I truly act upon it. I know Junior year is the most important, so I was wondering... what if I got my act together this year.. is there hope? If I got A's and did community service, took SAT classes, and did after school activities... would there be hope for me?

Please give me as much advice as possible for my upcoming Junior year, I will do whatever it takes to get into the college of my dreams... I just don't know if it's possible for them to accept me because of my previous years in high school.

  1. You're probably not looking at a tier one school but with 2 stellar years, above average ACTs and SATS, and some extra curricular stuff you would be looking at some pretty nice universities.

  2. The most important part is to keep working hard and don't lose faith in yourself. It's okay if you mess up your first few years of high school because college admissions know that not everyone enters HS with perfect grades. Even top tier schools like Harvard don't only admit perfect-score students. They review applications holistically, taking into account your extracurricular activities, passions, and goals in life. Part of what could distinguish you is a major turnaround in junior year with your grades. Most people decline during junior year, but you're right-- this is an important year and a good opportunity for you to prove to yourself (and the colleges) that you can set yourself right again.

Of course, don't forget extracurriculars and other activities like community service, etc. But what's MOST IMPORTANT is that instead of going for generic opportunities that everyone else does, you should do what you are interested in or have a passion about. Look into what you've done in the freshman and sophomore years and see if you can expand on that. For example, did you join any clubs that you enjoy? If so, get more active and go for a leadership position. Colleges like to see consistency in your activity and work, so be aware not to suddenly join lots of new clubs junior year or do lots of random community services so you wouldn't have time to focus on the most important things.

Anyway, hope that helped. Best of luck-- just keep looking ahead. It's possible.

  3. Is your overall GPA below a 3.0? If so you may have a very hard time getting into well universities ranked in the first tier, but I wouldn't rule the chances out. Just try to make all A's if you can, stay focus, have a good outlook towards your future, and think positive.
