Okay, so I'm sort of a vegetarian. I don't like eating meat because it just tastes bad to me. I do eat meat sometimes, but only beef. I want to know how I can stay healthy and get enough protein. What vitamins should I take? I live in a house with 9 other people who are NOT vegetarian or anywhere close to it. Please give me some advice.

  1. Why would you post this in the vegan/vegetarian section? There is not such thing as a "sorta" vegetarian.

Well you should have stated that you were trying to become one :/

  2. There is A LOT of vegetarian sources wherein you can have all the protein you need. Also, sorta vegetarian? You need to be careful about identifying yourself with.

  3. You could substitute meat with beans they are a very good source of protein and also nuts.  There are a lot of multigrain pastas out now too that are a great source of protein and vitamins.  I don't know it you like fish or not, but you need to watch your iron intake also, and this would be a good source for that.  Also eggs, and tofu, or any soy product.  My sister is not a vegetarian by any means, although she is not fond of the taste of meat.  She makes all the wrong choices for food, french fries, onion rings - pretty much anything deep fried - ice cream.  At least you are concerned about your health.  Also it is okay to be "sort of a vegetarian"  Everyone is "sorta something".  Eat what you love, and love what you eat!

  4. I would suggest that you ask your parents to set up an appointment with your doctor and ask them questions.  Even if not living with your parents, seeing a doctor wouldn't be a bad thought.  IF the doctor isn't really sure about the answers or you need more information than they have - ask for a referral to a dietitian/nutritionist.

While addressing all your questions about protein, they can also address what a healthy diet is and give examples and actual eating plans and help with shopping lists for your parents/yourself to buy the foods that you need to have a healthy and safe diet.
