Maggie is a 5 year old 14H Registered Quarter Horse. She came to us on owner surrender. She is broke to ride and very responsive. She has ground manners, leads, clips, and loads. This horse needs a confident handler as she feeds off of your mood. We are using Natural Horsemanship methods to train her and she is responding VERY well. She is healthy, sound, and barefoot. Her adoption fee is $600.

^this is a caption from petfinder.com on an adoption for a quarterhorse named Maggie.

  1. You should not own a horse... I knew the answers to those questions by my 2nd time being in a barn...

  2. 14h means shes 14 hands high thats how you mesure a horse and a hand is approximatly 4 inches.

owner surrender means somthing happened and the owner had no coice but to give up the horse, they may have been forced, had health issues, not enough money or just moved where horses werent allowed.

broke to ride means that they are a horse that is meant to be ridden and of course for that you need a saddle.

leads means that if you attatch a lead rope to your horse ( pretty much a leash for a horse. ) it will follow BEHIND or BESIDE you as it should do.

Clips pretty much means to give the horse a haircut when itss fur gets longer in the winter and that she will let you or her farrier do her feet.

loads means when you put it in a horse trailer to take it places it walks right into the trailer instead of fighting like some horses do.

Also.... Before you get a horse do as much possible researching as possible other wise you may not know what your doing and if you dont know what your doing that can end up in a serious accedent. I was told things like this before and always thought yea right i can do whatever i want and i will be fine, remember you do need to know and you need to have horse knowledge, it helps ALOT.

( wasnt being rude just helpfull )

Hope i answered all your questions! And i hope this helps!!

JUst e-mail me for anymore questions you may have and i will help you to the best of my knowledge!

  3. 14h is her size. She isn't a horse, but a pony. It means she has papers and her breed is a Quarter Horse.

"Owner surrender" means that her previous owner gave her to the humane society or a rescue group.

Broke to ride means that she can be ridden.

Leads mean she will walk with you on a lead rope, clips means she is fine getting her hooves done and loads means she is fine with going into horse trailers.

  4. If you get her, she sounds nice, take some lessons on her or someone else's horse if you don't know what all that means. It great that you are adopting though. Make sure when you go se her that you have a trainer or experienced horse person ride her and tell you what they think and GET A VET CHECK it very important for your investment.

  5. Everyone else answered all your questions, but Katie said not to consider this horse because it was a cheap price. I help out with a Horse Rescue/Retirement organization. Our adoption fees run about $300. I board with two girls that have gotten horses from this organization and they are both awesome! You should try Maggie out first, most organizations give you two weeks before adoption becomes final. You should also have someone with experience check her out. But don't let the "cheap" price discourage you. .

  6. Are you thinking about buying this horse because it is cheap? Please dont. The ER bills that result from an inexperienced person on a cheap 5 year old are WAY more expensive then dishing out the 5,000 or so to get a nice trained horse (that is not 5).

    Please reconsider.

    1) 14H means that she is 56 inches or app. 4 1/2 feet at the withers.

    2) The owner gave her to the rescue. Could be for any number of reasons.

    3) You can put a saddle on her and get in it. Whether she can do anything or not is up in the air. Whether she will try to kill you or not is also unknown.

    4) She lead, accepts being clipped with clippers and loads in a trailer. How well at each is unknown. With most buyers you would assume the horse does it all well but with rescues you never know. Some are completly honest and some are as bad as the horse dealers.

  7. 1st. shes a pony. but is registered with her breed

2nd. its mean the owner gave up his ownership

3rd. it means you can ride her

4th. she walks on a lead line, shes fine with clipping, and she goes into a trailer

  8. 14hh is how tall she is- sort of short, and quarterhorse is her breed

owner surrender, is the owner gives the horse up

Broke to ride is, dosnt need to be trained, can be ridden and saddled

Leads- you can lead her around on a rope

Clips-for her feet, you can do them

Loads- Can go in a trailer

    You dont know all this/

  9. if you dont know any of this then u clearly are not even close to being ready to get your own horse.

  10. Q: what is a "14H registered quarterhorse"?

A: 14H means her height. 1 hand (H)= 4in. so... from the ground to her withers, the bump that is at the top of the back above the front legs just before her neck she is 56 inches tall.  and quarter horse is a breed http://www.aqha.com/. registered means- http://www.horseidreg.com/.

    Q: whats "owner surrender"?

A: owner surrender is when the owner gives the horse away. not like it was forcefully taken away from like neglect or something. the owner probably couldnt afford the horse anymore.

Q:what does "broke to ride" mean?

A: means the horse has already been trained to ride. you could throw a saddle on the horse & ride it.

Q:what does "leads, clips, and loads" mean?

A: Leads means you can put a halter on her and she would follow you & not freak out & be confused about what you were doing with her. just mean she has been trained to be led. clips can mean either she can stand clippers (like for hair) and/ or stands there for the farrier (the person who clips horse's toenails). loads means has already knows how to go in a trailer without flippin out.

  11. 1. She is 56" tall at her wither and her breed is quarter horse, and she has pedigree papers.

    2. Her owner gave her up for adoption.

    3. She has been trained to wear a saddle and bridle and be ridden.

    4. She can be led with a halter and lead rope.

Electric clippers can be used to shave hair, especially her ear and

        muzzle hair.

Will walk into a horse trailer (hauled behind a truck to transport

        over the road)
