Help me add description onto this sentence?

big puddles were everywhere.....

describe the heavy torrential rain

the weather is dark and dull

and add something about the puddle maybe a simile or metaphor

the rain was falling in thick, heavy ropes that stung our skin and the sky was a black abyss that shed no light. There were puddles forming rapidly on the ground; dark, treacherous pits waiting for us to stumble into their untold depths...
