Question:

Help me brainstorm ideas for a Cub Scout parade entry/service project parade - theme: The Sky Is The Limit?

The pack will be marching in our local parade. The parade theme is 'The Sky Is the Limit'. I'd like the boys to do something useful while marching - collect food for a food pantry, clothing drive for local non-profit thrift store, maybe something related to the environment, such as picking up trash on the parade route.

But, I'd also like for their parade entry to fit within the parade's theme.

We have access to a trailer & a tractor to pull it.

Help me jumpstart my creativity with some ideas! What would you do if you were organizing the boys' entry in the parade?

  1. I think if you picked up trash on the parade route that would be cool! you could decorate the trailer and tractor with kites because they fly in the sky. have them decorate paper kites.  if you did something environmental, it would kind of go in with the sky, outdoors type of thing. you could fill up 2 or 3 or 4 big garbage cans and have the sky be your limit for how much trash you can pick up. and if they filled 2 trash cans, maybe they could get a prize or something along those lines to help inspire them to pick up trash.

  2. Do you have to service project during the parade? Its a nice idea and all, but carrying food or clothing would get heavy. Stopping to pick up trash could hold up the parade, have boys running to the crowd, or just chaos in general. I'm a Den Leader, so I understand wanting to combine things, but cleaning up afterwards would be a better idea in my book. As far as ideas, you could do something with fireworks or rockets. Build then out of cardboard, use Cub Scout colors and streamers, glitter, whatever. Another idea would be some type of display that shows the boys reading books and imagining themselves as adults in jobs (sky theme so pilot, astronaut, air traffic controller, etc).
