Help me build a car with 27000!

Okay guys, so I have to get a car mine died on me - alot. I've been saving and have about 27000 to spend maybe get it up to 33000.

Yeah I'm a chick and cant fix cars, I don't want one to die on me again. I know more about trannys and tranny pans and 12volt starter solenoid thingys than I want to know. I'm sick and tired of my car dying, this has happened twice in one week and I'll scream and rip my hair out if I have this issue again. I don't care about makes and models as long as it lasts. Help

These are the important things to me:

- Great engine; when I step on the gas it better feel like a jet, there is nothing worse than a car that cannot move and nothing more dangerous.

- Fuel; I'm not rich so I want something that isn't ghastly expensive to drive around. Or having the parts expensive as h**l either.

- Great trade in value; I don't want to have to keep cars forever anymore so I want to trade it back in 4 years from now.

- I don't want a lot of upkeep. (besides changing oil and getting tuneups on a regular schedule which I'm good at compared to the rest of society.)

- Able to handle in a fair amount of snow, and no I don't feel like driving around a compact SUV. (although the car dealer tried to convince me I needed one)

  1. You can get a new 2009 Scion tC with navigation for an MRSP of $20,129. It comes standard with air conditioning, a panaroma sunroof, and a 161hp engine. The sunroof opens in the front and has a fixed panel over the rear seats. Power up and down windows, turn signals on the side mirrors, and 17" performance tires also come standard.

Scion is Toyotas little brother, so to speak. Relaibility is outstanding and knowing that the tC is basically a Toyota is a major plus. The tC borrows the Toyota Camrys 4 cylinder engine that produces 161hp and 163 lb.ft torque. This is quite a big engine for this class of car and it shows. The tC propels away from stoplights quickly, and without hesitation. The 0-60mph is impressive too. The engine moves this nearly 3000lb car from 0-60 in under 8 seconds.

If that isn't fast enough for you, they also offer a supercharger. The supercharger increases the hp to 200hp and the torque to about 180lb ft. The supercharger, however, can only be equiped on the manual version, not the automatic.

The fuel economy is rated for 23/city and 30/hwy for the automatic. and 22/city and 30/hwy for the manual. Best of all, the supercharger does not affect the gas mileage by that much. Now my Scion tC has been getting around 25/city and 33/hwy and I have the automatic.

Although the tC is a coupe, the backseat is really spacious. My 6ft friends love to sit in the back seat, especially since they have the glass panel over their head. Also, it has the functionality of a hatchback, which is really nice if you ever need to move something or have luggage in the back.

In terms of snow, the stock performance tires are not the best for snow. But if you buy a pair of all-weather tires, the tC handles as well as any fwd car will in a fair amount of snow. I went out this winter in 6 inches of snow and did find. Actually, I did better than expected. I am confident in poor/snowy weather.

The trade-in value of the tC is really good. Used tc's are selling for almost as much as the new ones. So for a 4 year old car to cost 5k less than a brand new one really speaks for itself.

I've only had the normal wear and tear on my tC. Nothing to replace at all. Just get it tuned up and change the oil in it when necessary is all that I have done.

So to summarize it, I would say the Scion tC is an outstanding value for the price.

Here is a list of what I would recommend also:

Subaru Impreza (normal or WRX/STi) - great snow capabilities and awesome reliability

Infinity G series (comes in coupe or sedan) tops out and $36k and has the luxury goodies.

So I hoped I could help and I hope you choose the right car for you!

  2. Tired and true:

    Honda civic,

    Toyota Corolla.

  3. I would suggest one of these:

    Mercedes-Benz C300

    Subaru Impreza WRX

    Mitsubishi Lancer Evo-X

    Toyota Matrix XRS

    Audi A3

    Mazdaspeed 3

    Mazda 5

    VW Rabbit GTI

Toyota Prius, if you can find one

    VW Jetta Sportwagen TDi

    Volvo V50

    anything specific you want? (2-door, 4-door, convertible?,etc?)

Out of those, I would probably pick the Jetta TDI, but the other choices are good, too

    EDIT: If you like 2-doors,:

    Mazda Miata

    Volvo C30

    Scion tC

    VW Rabbit GTi

I don't know if you can get an Infiniti G37 for 32k; if you can, that is good, too

    EDIT:

In that case, get the Jetta Sportwagen TDi

unfortunately I don't think they'll be selling the 2-door Rabbit TDi here, so your best bet is the Jetta

  4. Subaru Forester 2.5 X 24,140 = best for snow & wet

Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport 23,275 = most fun to drive

    50/50 weight distribution

    alternatives to an SUV

    Mazda3s Grand Touring 22,815

    Mazda5 Touring 21,245
