Just a basic PC set up for bass, guitar, and vocals. I have an external M-Audio card, some SONAR software, and a dinky little keyboard. I need to find more free software and figure out if I can hook the keyboard up and what I would need to do it. I'm looking for free sampling and mastering software - i used to use my buddy's Reason and Soundforge and that was pretty cool. I may need track software too - my sonar may need to be registered. I tried Krystal, but every time I overdubbed, there was latency and I had to physically move each track to match correct. The keyboard has a MIDI out (i think) ...what can that do? Do I need software for that?

  1. Hey Trevorr,

I have been trying myself, and Ihaven'tt come to a conclusion what to use.

But I can tell you that my M-Audio did not work at all for me. I tried to hook it up to my Korg, and I had more problems that it was worth. The store would not take it back. I bought it before the update to widows vista, once the update came I tried it and it still didn't work and it was too late to bring it back, so I'm stuck with it.

But I just bought a midi to USB to my computer and a Sony recording studio, and it works fine, Save your money, it's under $100.

Your going to get your latency from your sound card.If you have a decent sound card the better the latency, but if you have the M-Audio working your in good shape.

Just use the sound ware that it came with. and update it on the net.

Soundforge is great but if your a beginner get garage band at your local music store it will help you through the beginning stages and it sounds good too!

    Hope It helped

    Joe
