Help me choose a new digital camera?

Question

Would love a DSLR but practically speaking it's too big for me to take to college. Looking for something which focuses well with close-up images. It must have optical viewfinder and rechargable batteries (not AA). I am interested in Canon G7. Budget £150-£200.

We have 7 digital camers.

By far the best ones we have are two Canon Digital Rebel EOS 6.2 megapixel cameras.

Too big for college?

Do you want good pictures or just something that will get by with "acceptable" results?

Which one will pawn when you get strapped for cash?

I don't have personal experience of the G7 but the reviews look good.

I have had two Canon DSLRs: the 300D and now the 40D. I lso had a compact Canon (Powershot model), before running over it with my car! That was a nice camera too.

I like Canon cameras, so I am biased, but I say go for the G7.

The Olympus Stylus µ 1010 Silver looks like your best dea. It's within the price range and it has the recharagable battery and charger. Plus it has more optical and digital zoom than the Canon G7. It's also smaller and with three colors to choose from it will fit your college vibe easy!

I bought the camera  below  5 months ago and am  Absolutely Thrilled with it.  It performs all its functions extremely well, makes fantastic pics,  has  a  3x  zoom lens.    I  bought for  $  175  which included  shipping  at  www.amazon.com  in Jan.  2008.      The  size is great...it is  exactly the width and  length of a  credit card.    It is  about   3/4 inch  thick.    It fits  very easily in pockets.        

  I very highly recommend:  

  Canon Powershot  SD1000    Digital  ELPH

  Color I chose was Black, because black  looks better than the  "Silver"     ( the camera is actually black and silver, but they call it  "black" )      

  I am very happy I chose the  "black"   over the  "silver"  

  7.1  megapixels,   records video also.

for rechargeable batteries,  I suggest you buy another replacement battery if you are a regular photographer. you can find some cheap one here
