  1. I say visit AudiogoN and search the turntables on there.  This is a good place to at least get you started in the right direction.

  2. What's your budget?

If you don't have any idea, try out these models-

    Pro-ject RPM5

    Clearaudio Emotion

    Rokson Radius 5

(these are inclusive of arm and cartridge.)

Pro-ject Debut III (entry level model)

If you want a second hand model, check out these two models-

Linn LP12 (check the setup and the quality of cartridge too)

    Pink Triangle.

I have been using Linn LP12 (Linn Ittok pickup arm and A&R cartridge) since a long time. It's one of the best sounding turntables but it's got a wooden base and so the looks might not appeal to you. I have invested a lot in digital audio as well but I still feel that there's still some kind of excitement and magic in the LP's.

Keep in mind, for perfect sound from a turntable, you'll have to set it up perfectly and tweak it.

  3. Hi. I am currently using a Pro-Ject 6.1 Turntable with a JH Formula IV Unipivot Tonearm with new van den Hul pure silver inner tonearm wiring and an Ortofon Super OM 30 Cartridge tracking at 1.5 grams.I removed the original Arm that came with the Turntable because it was only average. You have to know what you are doing when you remove one Tonearm and  replace it with  another.I have done this over the years as i became more familiar with record players. There are plenty of Pro-Ject models at various prices. I always used Thorens Turntables in the past because they were a good all round machine. But i decided to try Pro-Ject and i find they are a better product for the money. My model is no longer available but as i said there are many to choose from which are supplied with better Tonearms. It is  very important to have the best Phono Interconnects from your Turntable to your Amp. to preserve the tiny signal it carries.
