i am a senior who try to decide which class I'm going to take next year

i want to major in international relations in college

so here's the questions

is it very important to take AP Euro??

in another words, do i still get a chance to get in college without taking it?

I try to take it but it doesnt fit into my schedule....

should i take it even though i sacrifies honor class?

if i take ap euro, i have 3 APs (euro, gov, and calc)

but if I DON'T take ap euro, i have 3 APs +1 honor(music theory, gov, calc, and honors physics)

what do you think is the better choice?

  1. I would definitely say to skip AP Euro. I took it as a sophomore, it is just European history, and it was totally boring. Besides, the other things will look better.

  2. AP Euro can be of great help for you to take international relations. The background that you will get will be very helpful./

  3. Taking (or not taking AP Euro) shouldn't affect your chances of getting into college.  Colleges look at GPA's, ACT/SAT scores, and credits.  So as long as you have the minimum required credits (so many math, so many science, so many English and social studies) and good GPA and ACT/SAT scores, your chances of being accepted into college won't change regardless of what you take.  Colleges also like to see "well-rounded" applicants, so being diverse (like taking music theory in addition to core classes) and participating in activities such as sports and clubs are also good.  If you are interested in getting into an Ivy League school or otherwise VERY competitive school, check their website or call the admissions office and see what they recommend.

The benefit of AP courses is that they allow you to test out of some college level classes - so AP Euro could put you somewhat ahead when you start college with your chosen major, but if you don't score high enough on the end test - it won't make a difference.  AP Euro might also give you a taste of what your core classes in college might be like.

If your school weights grades for honors and AP classes, then I suggest taking the most you can (the 3 APs and 1 honors) to boost your GPA.  Even if it doesn't weight grades, it still looks good to have as many AP and Honors classes on your transcripts as possible.

Schedule a meeting with your counselor or adviser.  He/She can be great help to you in deciding the best path.

After that, if you still can't decide - take the classes that you think you will enjoy more.  Life should be fun, too!
