I am a senior in high school in southern California, and i have narrowed down my choices for college next year, i am applying to a couple of other colleges in california, yet after visiting these two ( Sonoma State University, and Cal Poly Pomona) i have made them my first choices. Supposing i get accepted to both of these colleges i need to decide which one i will go to in fall 2009.

Sonoma looked great, with a great campus in a beautiful area. One of the main aspects of the colleges i looked at was the dorms and accommodation. The ones at sonoma looked more like apartments and were very appealing! I loved the atmosphere of the college and could see myself going there.

On the other hand Cal Poly Pomona was a much larger college, in a totally different area, which i felt wasn't as nice as Sonoma's. Although this area is closer to my friends and family. The facilities that the college offered were very impressive, and i was told during the tour that they set you up for your future by making sure you have an internship by the end of your attendance at the college. This made me feel that Pomona is a more academic college, and would be a better choice for my future.

I would like to know if there is a difference between the degree i will recieve, and if going to pomona (being a polytechnic, with the reputation) would get me a better job, opposed to a degree from sonoma.

I would also like to know any stories/experiences of people going to either of these colleges, or even someone who has any extra info on them to help my desicion.

I am also wondering, as Cal Poly Pomona is well known for engineering/architecture. If there is alot of partying there? Im not saying thats what i want to do at college, i just want to make sure its a normal college with FUN and not just study study study.. if you get what i mean.

thankyou!

:-)

  1. Just based on what you've reported (and without any personal knowledge of either institution), I would choose Cal Poly Pomona.  My reasons would be that it's closer to your family and that it offers an internship.  These factors would loom large for me in such a decision.  As for fun, you can make your own fun whether Cal Poly offers much of that or not.  However, it's your decision and I hope you make the correct one with your future in mind.
