Question:

Help me clarify this please (burst shooting Lumix dmc-fx35)?

I recently bought a Panasonic DMC-FX35. I am trying to figure out the burst shooting mode. On Panasonic's website, under Technical Specs, it says this about Burst Shooting:

Burst Shooting Mode: Full-Resolution Image, 2.5 frames/sec Max. 7 images (Standard mode), Max 4 images (Fine Mode)

High-speed Burst Mode: approx. 10 frames/sec (recorded in 2M for 4:3, 2.5M for 3:2, 2M for 16:9)

Does that mean it can do 10 pictures per second (even if it's just 2MP)? I have been fiddling around and can only get it to take 2.5 pics per second. If I am understanding this correctly, and this camera can take 10 picture per second, HOW do I do it?

btw, the manual won't even go into detail on how to do this.

  1. First of all for the Lumix DMC FX35, it specifically depends on whether you are in Mode 1 or Mode 2 for shooting images in the viewfinder.

Mode 1 sets up the camera so stabilization is automatically set, which is always helpful in recording shots when the subject matter is constantly moving. Mode 1 does not depend on user input, as it runs on automatic.

Mode 2 sets up the camera so that stabilization mode is only activated, when you use the shutter button on the top end of the camera. This is the Mode you should almost always be using, if you are just taking shots or shots outside of still objects or environments.

Having control of the shutter will allow you to choose exactly what speed the camera runs at, so doing the higher speed Burst mode is very simple in Mode 2. This activates the camera so that it increases the shutter speed to capture more in the film.

So that it is not confusing, you should first experiment with the one button Quick menu. It physically uses only one button to select the different choices for the shooting mode you are in. This is called Quick menu system access, and you should find that in your manual that was sold with the camera.

The options are actually alligned along the top of the screen, so you must move over to the correct mode yourself using the arrow to highlight each option. Unforunately there is no Manual mode for the FX35, there is only Automatic and Intelligent. But with a bit of practice it should be relatively easy to switch between Burst mode while in Mode 2 and Mode 1 which covers objects constantly in motion.

Make sure your manual explains what happens in Mode 1 or Mode 2, or get familiar with these two selections, before you start shooting pictures at a high speed. Even a slight jump into the complex shooting style of the FX35, will overwhelm the new user without going through tutorial. Consult both the guide and the information within to learn why you need to be able to activate shutter control yourself.
