Question:

Help me connect my sons Xbox live?

My son just bought an XBox pro and Halo and we want to connect to Internet to play. $100 for the Xbox thing to get Internet is robbery. Wii, which we also have is FREE. So, We have DSL here with a 2WIRE router hooked to phone line with filter and to the desktop computer. The desktop is always on, but we never use it. We are usually on out lap top using the wireless signal. The 2WIRE has more ports in back to plug more c**p into it. At least I guess thats what they're for. We have 40' between desktop and XBox. No walls. Can I plug a cable into the back of the 2Wire modem and then into the xbox and be online? Is it that simple? I'ld prefer a wireless connection. Is the a simple way to do it using my existing equipment, or do i gotta buy that overpriced thing from Xbox to get a signal to play online? I'ld appreciate simple answers as I may not be smart enough to understand the more technical ones. THANKS.

  1. www.xbox.com/pcsetup has a great instructional video that you should watch for connection help on your 360. It also explains things in laymans terms for the common man. Just ignore the junk about syncing the media center with your 360, the connection help is what you want.

UPDATE RESPONSE:  As for the Linksys BEFSR41 router, that idea probably won't work because:

    (1) That router is a cable/dsl modem, and unless your phoneline is running on a cable internet connection it may be incompatable. But compatability isn't your problem. Which brings up problem 2.

    (2) Yes it does need to hook up to your computer so you can install it with the included installation disc.

May I recommend the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router instead? It may not have as many ports, but it's much more of a hassle-free setup as opposed to the Linksys BEFSR41, plus some versions come with speedbooster for stronger, faster connections.

  2. To go online u need to either connect it with the modem to the xbox with cable or wireless if want wireless u need the wireless networking adapter. If u dont want wireless u can just connect the cable from the modem to the xbox. And u will need to purchase xbox live membership you can purchase 1 month for $7.99 a 3month for $19.99 or a 12 month for $49.99. then u will need to set up an account either online or on ur 360 here is how to do it online just click on the link and follow direction  https://live.xbox.com/en-US/signup/Gamer...

  3. Any wireless bridges will work for the 360, they cost about 29.99 at your local store. If you dont want to buy a wireless bridge, you can buy third party wireless network adapters like the Pelican 360 adapter. I got the Pelican 360 adapter new for 39.99. It actually gets a better signal than the official one. I tested both.

  4. simple as can be yes you can use wired connection there are 2 ports on the back of the xbox one for wireless and on for wired get you Ethernet cable(blue internet cable) and connect it to your rotor/modem than to back of your xbox

  5. You can connect the xbox 360 and router with an ethernet cable.

You can buy a wireless adapter for xbox 360.

You can complete offers here: http://www.prizerebel.com/index.php?r=46... and get a free wireless adapter and free xbox live gold.

  6. Connect the modem to the Xbox with an Ethernet cable and you can buy the wireless adapter for it for a lot less on eBay or Buy.com. You have to have Xbox live gold to actually play against people though. You can get that a lot less on Buy.com also.
