Help me convert video files!?

i have .avi files that i want to be played into a standard dvd player.

what can i use to convert these .avi files so i can use them in a dvd player. what files should i change them to?

Try this before you download one of those converter programs: Here's a little trick that I just learned:

Copy the AVI video that you have already saved, then paste it in that same window (any random spot will do). Windows Movie Maker will then let you view and burn the video. So will Windows DVD Maker. You won't even need a converter!

It might also help to Use Windows Movie Maker to turn the video into a movie after you've copied and pasted it, so that it gets converted to WMV.

To play the files, they must be "burned" onto a DVD in the standard format for DVD players.  It's not worth understanding the specific files and linkages.  Just get yourself a good  CD/DVD burning program.  If you've got a DVD burner (DVD-R/RW) drive than you, more than likely, already have a program installed to do that (look for Nero or Roxio Easy Creator).  However, there are a few good programs out there that you can use.  Try Power2Go if you want something REALLY easy to use (they offer a full version, thirty day trial) or you can download something like Simple DVD Creator ( http://www.download.com/Simple-DVD-Creat... ) which is fairly easy to use but doesn't have much in the way of features (like menu creation, disk labeling, etc.

Standard DVD players read the .Vob format, the files you have now are in AVI format..
