Looking at two models.

2008 Rockhopper

2008 Hardrock Comp Disc

The rockhopper is a little more expensive, but doesn't come with disc brakes. I suppose it has better components though. Not sure about frame differences. I'm a casual bike rider looking to get more into it. Bike will see city streets and packed dirt/stone trails most of the time.

  1. rockhopper is cool but the hardrock comp disc is also good. My friend has the comp and he likes it. and my other friend has the rockhopper. i like the rockhopper.

  2. These are both decent, entry level bikes that you'll be able to ride for many years.  My wife has a many year old RockHopper.  I never have to do anything other than very basic maintenance and it shows no signs of giving up the ghost.

In general, the components of these two bikes are pretty comparable.  They are solid and should work well a long time.  Personally, I am not much of a fan of mechanical disk brakes.  For one, they are heavier than rim brakes.  Secondly, rim brakes have more than adequate power to stop your bike.  If you ride a lot in damp weather, disks will make somewhat less noise.

Thus, I think the decision comes down to which feels better when you ride it.  I suggest you take each for a nice long ride and buy the one that feels best.

    Hope this helps.

  3. if you want a good mountain/jump/sturdy bike then the gt Chucker 1.0 is a GREAT decision

  4. I would get the rockhopper. I would try to save up some more money and get it in the disc model. But if you can't spend any more the v-brakes should be fine.
