So I'm going to an audition next Tuesday and Wednesday, for Cheaper by the Dozen. This is what information there is on the website. Please help me understand what it means. Should I have a monologue prepared? If so, what kind? Thank you for you help!

"Audition Format: Cold reading, and one minute prepared piece. Selection can be a prepared monologue, or a portion of a script (if it is not a monologue, other auditioners will be asked to read the other part(s). Your prepared piece is meant for you to demonstrate what you can do, so you are free to select any piece that you are comfortable with."

  1. Cold reading is something you have never seen.  Prepared piece could be something you have done before or at least practiced.  Cheaper by the Dozen is pretty old, so you may want to stay away from material written recently.  Something from Life with Father might work.

  2. it means that you can choose what style of the script you want to do. cheaper by the dozen is older so act from the time period when it was written. you have one minute to present the part of the script you want to do. monologue is when you have a conversation from the script by yourself. this is so the person evaluating the audition can tell if you can act as OTHER parts instead of just the ONE. if you choose not to do a specific part others are free to do the one you chose not to present. the part of the script that you choose is to show what you are capable of and are comfortable doing. i sure do hope this helps and isn't more confusing! good luck! :D

  3. Cold Reading means that you will receive a side when you arrive at the audition.  You won't have time to memorize the lines (unless you've a photographic memory).  The one-minute prepared piece is something that your select on your own (ie. a monologue from a Shakespeare play).  This probably should be memorized.

    Good luck!
