Question:

Help me draw proper blueprints???

I build bipedal robots, and up until now I had no plans, I would always wing it and hope for the best. Now, it's too expensive for guesses, and I don't know how to draw accurate blueprints for this one. Anyone have a clue?

  1. Blueprints haven't been used in decades. Why would you want to use them?

Get a good mechanical drawing package and use that. If you can't do that, take a drafting class at some school.

  2. You need to study descriptive geometry, orthographic projection, and ANSI 14.5 Standards.

A community college will probably have classes.  Many high Schools have classes too.

  3. If you are serious about learning how to do mechanical drawing, by all means, go to a local community college and take a drafting class or two.  They can and will teach you how to draw.

As for software, as a student, you can go to autodesk.com and download a full functioning version of AutoCAD (student version).  This is probably the software you would use in your class as well.

Don't try to study this on your own, it really is not very intuitive.
