Help me figure out what is making holes in my yard

I had 2 trees cut down recently and just noticed 50(roughly) or so 1 inch holes with no piles of dirt next to them. They are spread about the yard but there are more near the stump of 1 of the trees. Kind of worried because I have little ones that play in the yard. Any answers are appreciated.

Well, i have the same thing.HUNDREDS of Holes all in my yard, sized about like a fingertip, some smaller, no dirt around them or nothing. I actually thought they were dirt dobbers or something????  So I decided to spray them with ant poison out of curiosity because I have little ones that like to sit and play in the yard.. And these huge spiders started coming out of the holes and dying. These spiders look like crabs. After researching them, I have found that they are Wolf Spiders.. Not poisonous, but we have packed and been staying with my sister-in-law until my husband gets in from out of town on business. I have absolutely NEVER seen anything like this IN MY LIFE. Research it online, Wolf spiders do build bureaus.. I don't know WHAT to do because I have seen some inside as well.. The female wolf spider carries babies on her back..
