  1. First off, you don't need a portable concentrator to leave home.  If you contact your DME (durable medical equipment) provider, they can set you up with portable oxygen.  It will come in a metal cylinder and have a regulator on top of it that will regulate the flow of oxygen.  You can get a conserving device (it delivers oxygen when you inhale instead of a constant flow) and the bottle of oxygen will last quite a bit longer.  If you need constant flow, they can give you that type of regulator.  These units come with a backpack to carry all of the associated gear.  There are other portable units like the Helios, that allow you to fill your own bottle from a storage tank that you keep in the home.

So, have your doctor write a prescription for you for the portable oxygen, and then contact a DME provider (your doctor can recommend one for you) and get out there and start living again.

    Good luck to you.

  2. The company that supplies your home oxygen should be able to help you.  There are small (M6) tanks that you can carry in a small backpack for outings.  Most insurances will not pay for a portable oxygen concentrator and with the price of them, I don't think you will be able to find a cheap on.. but you could try eBay.
