Help me find a quiet, affordable and romantic restaurant in Toronto.?

Question

My wife and I are running out of nice restaurants in East York; some have closed, some have changed or are under new management, some are just getting too popular and end up giving us headaches from the noise. Bottom line: it's getting harder to find someplace we can go for a nice, quiet dinner together.

I'd like to find someplace that has good food, good service, and is quiet and well-lit, so I can take her out for New Year's. North 44 of course is one of the best like this, but it's a bit out of my price range - I was hoping for under $50 each. Anybody have an idea?

(We especially like French and Italian restaurants, but anything nice will be great!)

Le Select Bistro...I think it's on Queen...near Spadina...north side.  Fabulous small, cozy, and really nice French food.

Have you tried Allan's which is on the Danforth.  Really great food and a great wine list.  I've given the link to their website below if you want to check out their menu first.

Wow, what an open ended question. There are so many restaurants to choose from in Toronto. There is a new year's eve guide on menupalace. I think you should check it out. When you get there (based on what you're asking for with budget), I recommend calling Spezzo. Urban, and Monsoon, and JW's. The other restaurants may not be what you're looking for. Good luck!

I like Lolo at 619 Mt. Pleasant. French with an Italian twist, intimate atmosphere. Unfortunatley dinner for two will run you at least $100. Mimosa on Yonge at Castlefield Rd. is also quite good. If you want to go downtown try Taro Grill, the food is great and not too pricey.
