Question:

Help me fix my toilet please!!?

When we flush the toilet, we have to hold down the handle for a while to make sure that everything goes down. If you flush and just let it go right away, nothing goes down. We've tried adjusting the chain and that didn't seem to work. Any other ideas? Thanks!

  1. The surefire way to fix this is to buy a flush/fill valve repair kit. They are pretty cheap and easy to install. It should only take about 10 minutes to do. Sometimes buying just a flapper will not solve the problem. Go with high quality. They may cost a couple dollars more but are still inexpensive.

  2. the problem is not with the float it is with the flapper. it is not staying up long enough. they make different flappers that are variable. you put pegs in holes to vary the time the flapper stays up, thus allowing more water the go down. try getting a new one at the home store. very easy to install.  problem solved.

  3. Try adjusting the float inside. It just adjusts via a s***w.  There may not be enough initial flow. This should help.

  4. You either don't have enough volume of water in the tank to start the flushing action, or you have not correctly adjusted the chain.

Adjust the float so you dill your tank all the way up to where it is ready to overflow into the overflow tube.

Adjust the flipper so it opens the flapper up all the way.

    * Your flapper might have a hole in it .

Your holes under the rim of the bowl might be gettin blocked up.

    Try this.

Take a wire coat hanger and untwist it. Now take the hook part and run it along the underside of the inside of the bowl. you will feel it go up into small holes. These holes cause the flush water to start the swirling action. If they get clogged it can cause water not to swirl.

Clean them all out. There are several under the rim  15-20.

Now also run the coat hanger in the small hole in the bottom of the bowl. This small hole allows a surge of water to help start the water to exit the large hole in the bowl. Clean it out good by shoving the hanger in as far as it will go and then back and forth.

Will work like a new Stool.
