Help me grow grass! Ok so we have a little dirt area off our patio at our apartment.?

Question

its a little bigger than the size of a patio. It receives direct sunlight most of the day.

We are in Southern California, its dirt on top and kind of like a clay material underneath. We are having such a hard time growing grass.

Please help I want something, that will grow relatively fast, and that I can just go out and water. Thanks!

Kim...with an area that small I would consider putting in Artifical turf. No maintenance, no water.

Peter's 10-10-10 mix  up a gallon's worth then add a gallons worth of seed to the mixture. let set for 1 hour in mixture then spread with your hand. Prep the soil with a garden rake. I mean rake the top two inches or so till it's loose. cover with straw. All of this can be bought from Home Depot for around $35.00. Then water, water, water. Good Luck!

Oh by the way I have a lawn care business and that is how I patch bare spots quickly in yards.
