Have this stuff that looks like piles of vomit. They are not in the gardens, but on the mulch that goes around the front of my home. After a few days it dries up and resembles some type of fungus. It seems to happen every year in the early Fall. Any thoughts??

  1. it's called 'dog vomit fungus' altho it's actually a slime mold....

  2. Chances are it is just a very common fungus to mulches. The thing most people don't seem to realize is that mulch needs to be turned about once a month or so. It is decomposing wood & turning it helps the decomposing process (which is beneficial to your soil), also it looks nice & keeps that nasty looking fungus from forming. Remove the fungus with a shovel, try not to disturb it & spread the spores, you will have to dispose of some mulch with it. Then use a hard rake to turn all the mulch.

  3. I think it is a fungus of some type.We had it in our beds one year, but I can't remember what we did for it.Try calling a nursery or maybe Lowe's.

  4. Sounds like a type of fungi that doesn't form a cap.  The link I gave below is a photo contest, but you can see that there are all sorts of forms for fungi!
