Question:

Help me identify an insect!?!?

Last Saturday I saw an insect I never saw before. It looked like a dragonfly, but the tail portion of it was long and cone shaped and and striped like a hornet or a bee. The wings were not long like a dragonfly's wings, but its head and body did have the look of a dragonfly. We think it might have a stinger, but that is not confirmed. It wasn't aggressive, but did look scary (because of the striping on its tail). Any ideas? I've been searching the internet for pictures of wasps and pictures of dragonflies and I haven't found it yet. It really does look like a dragonfly mated with a bee, hornet or wasp.

Robber flies don't sting.  They're actually quite beneficial, being aerial predators that feed on other flies.
