Help me identify this mystery tree...?

I need the name of a tree at our new house that has bean pods growing on it. The pods are 2-3 inches long. The beans inside are fairly small. I live in NC if that helps...

  1. Need more information.  What shape are the leaves?  It could be a redbud or a mimosa, among other things.


  2. Plants are named according to their flower structure. A photo or  description of the flower may be necessary.

  3. There are several trees that form pods. Redbud trees, Honeylocusts, Black Locust and Catalpa trees are a few. See the pics of seed pods below for these trees. Picure 1 is a Catalpa, 2 is a Redbud, 3 is a Honeylocust and 4 is a Blacklocust. From the size you are describing it sounds like a redbud.

    B Anne is also correct in that it could also be a mimosa or silk tree. I included a picture of that tree as well as the 5 th picture.
