Help me interpret a dream please?

my friend is asleep (this is his dream, not mine) and in his room comes a giant snake, which slithers in and surrounds his bed. He tries to pick it up to get it out but cannot because it is bigger around than his two hands can handle. He is afraid it will bite him and then he throws a blanket over it. The end..it happened about 3 am.

If your friend is a Christian, the following should make sense; if he's not, then it may or may not, LOL.

Snakes represent evil, or perhaps "original sin."  It depends upon the context.  Symbolically, it appears your friend has been surrounded by sin in some way.  Is he living in unconfessed sin?  Or is he thinking of engaging in a sin, but hasn't yet started?

I also see symbolism in the fact that he was lying down.  When we are asleep, we are vulnerable -- much more so than when we are awake and standing up.  It may be that this symbolizes feelings of powerlessness or vulnerability having to do with the effects of sin in his life.  This powerlessness may also be expressed in the fact that he could not remove this sin by himself.  1 John 1:9 explains that we need Christ to do that:  "If we confess our sins, He [Jesus] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

As for the snake biting him, 1 Cor. 15:56 immediately came into my mind:  "The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law."  Again, this ties in with original sin and/or "lawlessness," or a disregard for Christ's law.

In the Old Testament, when a person confessed his or her sin and made the proper sacrifice and offering, the sin was "atoned for."  In Hebrew, the word "atoned" literally means "covered."  Perhaps the blanket symbolizes your friend's true wish to confess his sin and move on with his life.

For me to dream of snakes means that someone will betray me. Maybe the snake being around is bed could be that it is someone he has a close relationship with.
