Is there a lot of mosquito, fly, or harmful insect in New Zealand?

I heard: There were earthquakes in Napier. Which area is the earthquake zone?

In which city I can enjoy the sunshine more?

I want to find a place in New Zealand where is sunny, dry, no mosquito, and no earthquake. Where should I visit?

  1. We have quite a lot of wet weather in New Zealand. It does depend on where you live. At the moment we are having a lot of rain and snow in the South Island and central North Island.

We have some mosquito's usually where there is bush. Also sandflies. But we do not have snakes, poisonous spiders or other really dangerous wildlife.

New Zealand has earthquakes - Wellington is on a fault line , and many other parts experience earthquakes. But I don't think as often or as bad as many other countries like Japan.

Nelson has the most sunshine. Benheim, Napier and Gisborne also have a lot of sun.

Most of these things are not big problems at any time. THey MAY happen, but not often.

Have a look at http://www.holidays-in-newzealand.com for information about the different areas. Look at the travel tips which is about safety etc.

  2. We do have dry summers, but that dosen't mean we don't have wet summers.  NZ is a long skinny country stuck in the middled of the ocean so the weather is changable.

Yes, there are mozzies in NZ as well as flys but there are no harmful bugs.

NZ is an earthquake zone as we sit on the pacific fault line.

Nelson, which is on the top of the South Island is considered to be our sunniest city, but as for the earthquake, well, it's a chance you got to take.  Bit like driving your car.  You never know

  3. I am surprised that nobody so far has answered your questions.

    1. Weather is both wet & dry as the country is in the temperate zone and being surrounded by the ocean weather is influenced by sea currents.

    2. There are mosquitoes and sand flies but usually not of plague proportions, there are no harmful insects.

    3. Earthquakes occur quite often, check Google Earth to see how often. Napier is not the only city affected as quakes can occur anywhere  at all and no area can be considered absolutely safe, still we live with it.

4.Sunshine is most abundant in Napier, Hastings, Tauranga, Nelson, Blenheim, Picton (my home town) and Alexandra.

    5. As for where you should visit, I would say everywhere, man.

    Come and enjoy a holiday.

  8. You've got a mammoth amount of online resources at your fingertips, just look it up!. If you were that interested you'd enjoy reading about it and wouldn't expect strangers to do it for you.

  9. south island has hot dry summers. especiall on the east coast.

no harmful insects. mosquitos in some places in summer (like some lakes) but they arnt a big problem in new zealand. the earthquake in napier was over 70 years ago but there are earthquakes along the whole length of the country. the napier one was the last big one so i wouldnt worry about those either. new zealand is dry in summer, but the west coast of the south island can still get quite wet. it gets a little bit humid up the top of the country, so if you want dry dry hot heat and lots of pretty counrtyside and beaches, then come to the south island

  10. New Zealand is an island country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two main landmasses (the North Island and the South Island) and numerous smaller islands, most notably Stewart Island/Rakiura and the Chatham Islands. The indigenous Māori named New Zealand Aotearoa, which is commonly translated into English as The Land of the Long White Cloud. The Realm of New Zealand also includes the Cook Islands and Niue, which are self-governing but in free association; Tokelau; and the Ross Dependency (New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica).

New Zealand is notable for its geographic isolation, situated about 2000 km (1250 miles) southeast of Australia across the Tasman Sea, and its closest neighbours to the north are New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga. During its long isolation New Zealand developed a distinctive fauna dominated by birds, many of which became extinct after the arrival of humans and the mammals they introduced.

The population is mostly of European descent, with the indigenous Māori being the largest minority. Asians and non-Maori Polynesians are also significant minorities, especially in the cities. Elizabeth II, as the Queen of New Zealand, is the Head of State and, in her absence, is represented by a non-partisan Governor-General. The Queen 'reigns but does not rule.' She has no real political influence, and her position is essentially symbolic. Political power is held by the democratically elected Parliament of New Zealand under the leadership of the Prime Minister, who is the Head of Government.
