Help me name my Friesian Gelding?

Question

I've just bought an imported Friesian Gelding and on his passport his name is Ids Van M. I've no idea how to pronounce this so need to either find out how or give him a name that more easily rolls off the tongue. Any suggestions?

I would leave that name and come up with a barn name.  When i saw "Van" i instantly thought Vangough (the painter), or Vancouver....

My imported Friesian is named Jouke (yow-kuh) of course I get the Jooka (jew-ka), Jookie etc but it's fun to call him Joukie Baby or Joukie Salami (that's only when he is bad though).

I remember one of the horses I looked at was named Meindert van Oliepoet.  I had to ask one of my Dutch friends what the heck it meant.  It was just the way it sounded - keeper of the pot.

My suggestion  is to keep it Dutch sounding so you don't forget his roots.  This breed is so much about the history/bloodlines and the overall beauty.  Be sure to give him a great name.
