I am an architecture and construction science major and i need to get a laptop for all the computerized work we do.

What i am looking for is something that is lightweight for my on the go schedule and that is from a good super recognized company.

I don't know anything about the memory size i need or anything else, but of course that's why i need the answers' community help.

i will have to download large programs such as Auto CAD Architecture, Revit Architecture, Sketch Up, Photoshop and others as well.

So what size memory will i need? what size backup memory?

more info about me.... I listen to music while in the studio, I spend most of my time on a computer doing work on Auto CAD, I like to play with photos and create and share them with friends and family, everything else is pretty much basic like writing essays and doing homework. But I need help figuring out how much memory i need and at what price. If there are any recommendations please write them out.

I have to download so many big programs and i have to buy a laptop soon. Please help me out. I appreciate all the answers. thanks in advance! :D

  1. Anything quad core or dual core (intel preferred), 2GB of RAM or more.

Windows XP is better, but good luck finding a laptop with it.

A decent graphics adapter will help, but isn't critical unless you are doing renderings and animations.

I have a similar machine to the one described above and do Civil Design on Land Desktop 2008 every day with no troubles.

Dell seems to have some good deals, especially on the Vostro series.

Check xpbargains.com for the latest coupons and discounts.

  2. I would get a laptop that is an apple macbook pro. they always seem to never carry viruses, they cost a little more, but always run much better than a PC. If the Mac system isn't for you, then I would go with an Sony Vaio, HP, or Dell. Make sure you get 2GB or 3GB if you do a lot of work with programs.

  3. well get a computer with a dual processor such as intel pentium with 64 bit operating system (it will allow u to add more memory up to 8 which will make u computer run faster and  u will be able to open more window or task at a time) the 32 bit can only add up to 3. U should also try to get a  SATA hard drive that run at 7200 rpm, it will also make u computer run smoother. IU will probably need a high graphic card. Choose an nvidia, they one of the best. the randeon is not bad too. f the price is not a problem choose a alien notebook. they are the best.
