Question:

Help me pick out a new tent?

I'm getting into camping, and the tent I have is pretty crappy. I am looking for a new tent, not too expensive, but high-quality. I want at least a 6-8 person capacity, and multiple rooms would be great. I'd also prefer steel or aluminum poles rather than fiberglass. I'd really appreciate suggestions from more experienced campers than myself! PLZ and THX!!!!

  1. Check out REI.  All of their tents have aluminum poles.  However, they don't have multiple room tents.  What I would do is buy two 4 man tents and then get a canopy or screen tent for hanging out in every day.

For our family of four we have a Big Agnes Big House 6 and it was well worth the money.  I was dead set on having aluminum poles (too many broken fiberglass ones as a kid).  Then we got a Greatland screen house from Target on sale for $52 this week.

  2. These links sell Adult Sized and Youth tents for great prices.

    http://wal-mart.com

  3. If you want a good quality tent that will last for years, my first peice of advice is to forget that Walmart and Target even exist.

As said before REI is a good place to start. If you want quality stick to the reputable brands I personally am fond of Big Agnes, Kelty, and Mountain hardware (pricy but really good quality imho and exp) brands. Another thing to consider is the customer service of the manufacturer, REI has a sweet replacement policy and guarantee, as does Kelty, and Mountain hardware
