Find the zero of f.

f(x)= (3/4)x - (1/2)

  1. the zero is where it crosses the x-axis (the line y=0). so...

    set y = 0

    0 = (3/4)x-(1/2)

    sole for x. add one half, divide by 3/4

    x = 2/3

    2/3 is your answer


  2. A value of x which makes a function f(x) =zero

    f(x)=0=(3/4)x-1/2

    solve for x:

    answer: x=2/3

    check: substitute 2/3 for x above:

    (3/4)*(2/3)-(1/2)=0
