I have a checking account from Washington Mutual. They send me a debit card through the mail but I never receive it. Someone stole the card and made multiple purchases. I called the bank to report it and they temporary credit me back my money. I went to my local police precinct to report the unauthorized transaction but they are asking for a letter and specific information from my bank which should be notarized. My bank told me that they dont write letters and refer me to the 1-800 number. I called the 1-800 number and they are telling me the same information. I have been back and forth from the police station and my bank like a fool. I am not getting anywhere. I am stuck, I dont know what to do anymore. Is there any other way to deal with this problem?

  1. Who did you speak to at the bank (in person)?  They have to give you something that shows you reported the card lost/stolen.  Go back and talk to the manager.  You were given bad information.  There are usually notaries at the bank as well.

You should be able to go onine (set up online banking for yourself) and print out all the transactions on the account.  That would give the police a record of what happened.

    Good luck.

  2. If the bank is close enough to you just go to the bank and confront them there.  If not tell the police what you have written here maybe they have dealt with this before and they will know where to go.
