I had a brain tumor on my pituitary gland when I was 12yrs. old. My pituitary gland had to be removed and I was put on cortisone. I have to take it for the rest of my life. If I go off of it, I will die. But since then, my ankles started spraining over and over and burning. Then, it spread to my feet and toes. I also have bone degeneration, osteoporosis, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, insomnia, and hypothyroidism. My doctor is almost 100% sure that I have neuropathy from the cortisone. I haven't had the nerve test done yet, but if I do have the neuropathy from the cortisone and I can't ever get off of it, doesn't that mean that I will only get worse and worse.

  1. Your Pituitary gland produces:

The anterior pituitary produces six hormones:

growth hormone which controls growthprolactin which stimulates the production of breast milk after childbirthACTH (adrenocorticotrophic hormone) which stimulates the production of hormones from the adrenal glandsTSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) which stimulates the production of hormones from the thyroid glandFSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and LH (leuteinising hormone) which stimulate the ovaries in women and the testes in men.The posterior pituitary produces:

ADH (anti-diuretic hormone) which reduces the amount of urine produced by the kidneys oxytocin which stimulates the contraction of the womb during childbirth

Not sure why the Doctor would give you cortisone?

Cortisone is one of a family of steroid hormones secreted by the cortex (outer layer) of the adrenal gland, which is located on the kidneys.

    Best of Luck
