Help me please i would like to know if im racist?

Question

ok well the thing is that i am uncomfortable around black people because i didn't grow up around them and i live in a town where it is a rare site to see a black person but i don't say racist things by the matter of fact i hit my friends when they say the n word which i am probably answering my own question but i just want to make sure but if I'm not racist Wayam i uncomfortable around black people

because of stereotypes of african americans.

they are normal people.

i dont think you are being racist, maybe just judgmental and rude!

stop looking at them like they are outsiders.

I'm mexican and asian, and grew up in a mexican community and never was around blacks, but now that i am its perfectly fine. they are just human beings!

It's just something that's relatively new to you from where you grew up and that's not your fault. You just need more worldly experience  dealing with different cultures and you'll be fine. Don't worry your NORMAL and as far as being racist, sounds like your on the right track and your parents did a good job of raising a non-racist child.

You are not racist.  I believe that a significantly high proportion of African Americans are more assertive than white people and that *may* be why you feel uncomfortable around them.

Good on you for not allowing your friends to use racist language around you, however I am concerned that you resort to violence to teach them the error of their ways!

You have sort of answered your own question; we are wary of things we haven't experienced and you are wary of coloured people because you haven't been around them. We are also influenced by our family and friends when we grow up so if your family have a negative view of coloured people then you are more than likely going to have your views clouded by them. All I can say is that, in any society, race etc there are good and bad people and you should judge the person not their race, creed or colour.

Maybe its because you haven't been around them that much you been around people like you and others who are not black.... Don't worry,that happen to me once,I started to feel a little uncomfortable wth spanish people for some odd reason when I moved to texas(lots of them there!) but I never say rasict things and I actually got along with them by being around them for only a little while.....I think you're racist its just that you haven't been around different lately....

I wouldn't say that you are racism if your not actively offending them or attacking them. It's ok to feel how you feel, that's your opinion but if your going to a black guy and saying that he needs to buy you a coke because he's black, that's racism.

I think you just aren't used to being around them so you get a little nervous. That's okay, I'm nervous around really really attractive people because my towns so ugly!

I don't think you are a racist. I think you just need more experience dealing with another race. I always look at everyone as though color does not exist. People are people and it does not matter what color or nationality they are. Just try to look at them as the same as you. It will be okay.
