I have a warneckei lemon lime house plant that is from my late moter in laws funeral. We want to keep them in memory. Ive only found one website to help tell me how to take care of it and ive done everything it says and ive already lost one of the two plants... no the second isnt far behind it.... I keep a spray bottle so to keep the leaves moist due to the dry air from the air conditioning its in good soil and i keep it watered a directed when its dry two inches from the top. It gets no direct sunlight. My leaves slowly turn brown and die and all of them have at least one brown spot on them or two. Does anyone know what i might be doing wrong? I really really want it to live. Please help!!!

  1. The browning could be caused by a number of reasons.  To be sure you'd have to show a picture, or you could take off a browning leaf and bring it to a local nursury with a large houseplant section, where someone could look at it for you.  This website looks pretty helpful too

    hope this helps

  2. The plant that you have will not tolerate low humidity. Either use the pebble tray suggestion from the above answer or put a humidifier in the room with the plant. The spray bottle is not really effective enough to raise the humidity.

You can also try using bottled water, if your tap water contains fluoride.

Yeah I think that would work as long as the water can't touch the bottom of the pot.

  3. Hi! I have never heard of your plant before, but you sounded so despirate for help I had to see what I could find! I would never copy/paste unless I had too, but you are right, there isn't that much info out there! Good luck, I hope someone knows more than I do so you can keep your cherished plants! Here is what I found:

Light: Medium light. If new leaves are the same size as those preceding, the light is correct. When the new leaves are considerably smaller, the plant needs more light

Habit: Very easy to grow upright house plant with gray-green and yellow striped leaf blades from a cane like trunk. Can be grown as a bush with leaves all the way up the stalk or with the cane exposed giving plant a palm tree like appearance with single or multiple crowns or tufts of leaves.

Place your "Lemon Lime" in filtered or indirect lighting. Early morning or late evening sun is ok. Check your plant weekly for watering. Allow the surface soil to dry 2" or 3" in larger containers... 1" to 2" in smaller containers. Feed your plant once a year... Dracaenas don't require much fertilizer

Watering: Water when surface has dried down, yet below the surface soil is still moist. If plant is in Hawaiian lava rock more frequent watering will be required. Do not let soil go completely dry or stay soggy wet.

Growing Conditions: Does well in warm ordinary indoor environment away from drafts. Likes humidity and responds well to being placed in a saucer over wet pebbles, but do not let roots stand in water for extended periods.

    Typical temp 60 – 86 F. Does not like to go below 55 F.

Tips: As they age, older leaves will yellow and need to be removed.

    Origin: Tropical Africa

    (Agavaceae)
