  2. Firstly: Norton = Big mistake.

I had it for years, and repeatedly had to wipe the system because of viruses. I recommend you get Mccaffe instead- I've had no problems with my computer since I installed it, and it tells me if there's a problem and fixes it for me. You can get a free trial, actually.

Deleting the virus won't be easy if you don't know your way around your computer- run a virus scan, and you're virus software /should/ find it, and give you the option to delete it.

In the mean time, don't open any unknown files, okay?

It could also be adware installed on your computer by accident, so check for that too.

  3. download

    malwarebytes anti-malware

    and do a scan

anything it finds put in quaranteen

    usually works for me

  4. Ok first get AVG Free then do

    a scan for viruses

    remove them if any

    restart.they should be removed

    if not

    restart your computer

while it restarts and press F8 till the safe mode menu comes.select safe mode

Note:Safe mode is not for internet use or entertaiment it is used in emergencies

ok  once your computer is in safe mode youll now from the word safe mode in the corners

load AVG free in safe mode

    do a scan

    remove the viruses if any

    and restart

your computer will return to normal

if this dosent work u will have 2 do system recovery thats means start the computer from scrath like when u first bought it.Check if there is a disk with your computer for recovery. If u dont find 1 contact ur computers manufacturer about the disk

  5. The best way to get rid of viruses completely, and to stop them from coming on your computer is deleteing system32. This can be found by going on My Computer, Local Disc ( C:\ ) and in the "Windows" folder.

  6. Sounds like Rogue Anti Virus 2008.

Download & update SuperAntSpyware & run a full scan, then download & update Malwarebytes again run a full scan. Run both to their conclusion and follow the instructions given. Preferably in Safe Mode.

  7. Try to use AVG or Kaspersky instead of Norton.

  8. If something is very wrong with your computer, and it's not under any warranty or protection plan, hopefully you had the good sense to create a backup disk. You can use the disk to restore your computer to the way it was when you made the disk.

  9. To start with, you were a little rash in accepting that file unless you knew the sender quite well, but I suspect you have learned that the hard way now....  Do you know what the virus is called, if so then google the name and you can probably find some removal instructions?  Re norton, a lot of viruses now disable or try to stop AV systems running, once they get hold.  Something you can try (it's free and so will only cost you a little time) is AVG - another virus checked (and, personally, I think it's better than norton anyway).  It is available from

    http://www.grisoft.com/

download the free version and install it then run a scan.  Alternatively, you can try to start in safe mode (when windows is first starting, hit F8 and you will get a menu up with "Safe mode" listed, choose that) - this runs in a real basic mode and starts up very few services.  You _may_ be able to run your virus scans ok in that.
