  1. I'm really an 'english' kind of person, so I'd prefer to explain this to you in real language.

    1.  The area of a square is Area=base*height, but since the base and height are the same in a square, it is just side^2 (squared).  Therefore, s^2=10,000  if you already know it, you know that 100^2=10,000, otherwise you can just take the square root of 10,000.

    s=√10,000=100

    now that you know the side length (100), and that there are four sides to a square, just take 4s=4(100)=400 to get the perimeter.

    2. The formula for the area of a triangle is Area=1/2*base*height.  Working from that, we get (really drawn out, but this is how I was always made to show my work)...

    52=1/2*b*13

    52=(1/2*13)b  <--commutative property (you can impress your teacher by saying that, basically it's that you can move the numbers around when you're multiplying them)

    52=6.5b

    52/6.5=6.5b/6.5

    52/6.5=b

    8=b

  2. 1. Perimeter = 400

    2. 4

  3. square has area of s^2

    10,000 = s^2 ..... S= 100

    perimeter = 4s .....=400

    area of triangle = 1/2(b*H)

    52 = 1/2(13 *b)

    104 = 13 * b

    b = 104/13 = 8
