Help me please! phone interference??

we have corded and cordless phones.

we also have DSL and a wireless router.

whenever the phone rings, we lose our DSL despite having filters on all the jacks. once the phone is answered, the connection usually resumes.

the cordless phones are 5.8G and usually don't interfere with the DSL but my wife says she can't hear the other person talking and hates to use the phones.

her hearing is quite good otherwise as she is constantly telling me to turn the TV down.

we have 6 jacks (I think). 3 have corded phones, the others have cordless.

what phones have good reception and do not interfere with WIFI?

  1. 5.8Ghz phones do NOT interfear with wifi signal, the trouble must be with something else, the only phones that interfear with wifi are 2.4Ghz

you should check that your filters are installed properly, do not forget to filter any fax machines, satellite boxes, alarm systems, and anything else beside telephones that use this dial tone (except for the DSL modem) if all the filters are installed properly, one or more of the filters are likely defective.

if you would still like to replace your cordless telephone, the best brand on the market is panasonic, and the best frequency to get is the DECT phones... I would never recommend Vtech or Uniden phones, as I encounter many troubles with these two brands..

  2. if your wifi router is 802.11n, it could be the wireless phones interference, some 802.11n routers are on 2.4GHz andsome are on 5GHz - don't you just love the fact that no one has decided where to put 802.11n so they are on both bands...

    ANYWAY....

You might have the telco come out an test the ring voltage. It should be 90V 20Hz 20ma, but if you are very close to the CO, the loop could be higher and this could cause xDSL router issues.

The filters are audio filters, they block high tones form the xDSL from being heard in the voice band. The filters have nothing to do with ringing.
