  1. Well, if you are new to horses... than you should go to a couple horse farms and chat with some people about horses. Also, try doing some research on the enternet about horses. Owning horses is a fun experience, but there is a lot of maintence that comes with owning one. So, do your research and talking to people who own horses helps. Then once you do that, you will have a better idea of what kind of horse you want (and if you still want one).

But then again, if you have been around horses before and know how to take care of one... then I would go with either a quarter horse or a thoroughbred. Some quarter horses are really great at jumping. But most are mainly for walking, trotting and cantering. But they are NOT a long distance horse. On the otherhand, thoroughbreds are great for walking, trotting, cantering AND jumping. They ARE a long distance horse.

    Hope this was helpful!!!

  2. First of all I would say focus on individual horses before thinking about what breed is best for a given task. Disposition is more important for a beginner. You want a well trained horse that is easy going, and not one that is flighty or stubborn. Every breed is full of horses that are bad behaved.

That being said, some general rules are Arabians and thoroughbreds are "hot". So what I mean by this in a sense is a thoroughbred is going to be more difficult to handle for an inexperienced rider. Arabians, great as they are, are basically bonkers mentally. More high energy and prone to being flighty.

You might think about a quarter horse or paint. As a general rule, more mellow.

Also again think about personality before appearance or breed. A smaller horse is not necessarily less dangerous. It is better to have a tall horse that is mellow than a small mustang that bucks everyone off.

If you are newer to horses have a trainer help you find a horse suitable to your experience level and ability.

  3. There are many breeds like that. Quarter horses, Paints, Thoroughbreds. It all depends on the horse's personality. Some QH are great. Others are spazzes. Try out diffrent breeds and horses to see which fits you best. Don't pick out the first horse you like, and don't pick one because they are pretty/cute.

    Good luck

  4. TRain first , cause you might not want one .

  5. it all depends on your experience and the horses.

it dosnt matter the breed of horse it is.

any horse can do that kind of stuff with the right training.

  6. TB

  7. (Assuming you are a beginner)

I would get a quarter horse or quarter horse cross. We had a mare that was and Arabian/quarter cross and she was excellent. Maybe look into Tennessee walkers. They are smooth ridding. Also look into getting them in between 10 to 15 years as they are usually calmer than when they are younger. I will post some online horse site below. Hope this helps.

  8. Are you a beginner? If so, don't buy a horse. Take some lessons and find out what kind of horse you're comfortable with.

I love TBs for jumping, and you can often find one that is quiet enough for an inexperienced rider. But if you're looking for something that's generally cooperative and eay-going, try and appendix (QH/TB cross). They have the levelheadednedd of a QH and the finesse of a TB :)

  9. Go with a QH. In my experiance, they are very smart and freindly. Don't get a TB for your first horse. TB's are very athletic and can be hyper sometimes, espessally if there off the track, This also goes for Arabs, They are NOT a first time horse. QH are the way to go for a first timer, they are alos great jumping horses, my QH jumped 5 ft, and just loves to jump every time he sees its time to jump.

    Good Luck!

  10. It really depends on your taste and budget, and all horses that are trained well can do the basics like walk, trot, canter and gallop. Jumping requires training, but there is no horse that can't be trained to do so if it doesn't have health problems. A Quarter horse, or Quarter horse cross is a cooperative breed for all around use. For jumping a pony or Thoroughbred does well, although with the TB, you have to warm them up and they can have attitude problems. Your best bet would be the Quarter horse.

  11. a quarter horse will be great their temper is great, trot is wonderfull and so is their canter. their loving and willing to please

  12. What kind of horse are you attracted to?  There are very nice horses in every breed.  If you want a great trail horse and smooth ride, get a Tennessee Walker.  It all depends on what you want to do with the horse.  I like all the breeds.  Just look for a well trained horse with a big heart.
