  1. x=5 is a vertical line (up and down). You need another vertical line where x=2 in order to go through the point (2,-7) and still be parallel to x=5.

  2. Parallel to x=5 would include all vertical lines like x=0, x=1, x=2, etc.  The only vertical line that passes through (2,-7) is x=2.

  3. The line x = 5 is a vertical line.  Examples of points on this line are (5,0), (5,1), (5,2), etc.  In general x=5, y=anything.

    Similarly, if you have a line that is parallel, it will also be a vertical line, except you want it to go through the point (2, -7).  Following the same pattern, your points would be x=2, y=anything.  You just have to look at the x value in the ordered pair (2, -7) --> x=2

    Answer:

    x = 2

  4. Wow, this is so easy. The equation x=5 is a vertical line. So if it passes through (2,-7), then it would be x=2.
