Ok first of all, I am already going to replace the torn blinds, and I don't want to repaint, because his favorite color is red and he likes it red. But the main problem is his bed. It's a twin bed from a bunkbed set he's had since he was little. He's 13 now, and he's outgrown it. But as you can see, his room really isn't big enough for a full sized bed. The spot the bed is in is the only spot you could put a bed, because the closet is on one wall, and the door to the hallway is on the same wall. Right now he's pulling the mattress off and sleeping on the floor which I don't like. What can we do about his bed? We have a futon but it's not comfortable, and I think he'd have the same problems with a daybed being too small.

  1. Heck skip the day bed and all get a high bed and then you can put his computer and desk and a small chair and lamp underneath. Another advantage you can use a full size bed. I would then take the TV down it looks horrible up there and maybe put in some staggering book cases / drawers across the wall. That way you can place the TV and anything elsethere on it and have plenty of room for clothes / books and miscellaneouse items. Then a nice throw rug on the floor and a new curtain and he would be set. This will also allow the room to open up and flow more so he has places to work/play/watch tv/ or what not.

And last but least add a couple of round mirrors and this will make a the room "appear" larger.

    Good luck and have fun!

  2. Well, the room seems really, really dark!  He likes the color RED which is fine but, he needs some accents like WHITE to brighten it up a bit and add interest.  White crown molding would be good!    He also needs a new light fixture for sure!  Maybe, if you are handy or know someone handy you could build him a cool loft bed!  There's tons of plans on the internet and it's NOT that expensive.  PLUS- He could use it in college if he plans on going away.  Underneath he  could have a desk or lounge area.  It would free up space!

  3. a word of advice: the dark paint is making the room seem even tinier than it is! maybe a coat of lighter red or white but still letting the red come through.

as for the bed, take the footboard off completely. or if its needed for structural support, cut off any part that comes past the mattress.

or, like another person said, a loft bed is a really good idea. my brother built his own when he went to college, theyre not too difficult. they add a lot of room and you could put his desk or dresser under it.

    good luck!

  4. what about a loft style bed with work and hangout area underneath

  5. Get a full size wall bed:go to panelbed.com or wallbedsusa.com-this site has a do it yourself kit.Your son will get a bed big enough for him and save room.As far as the color goes,I like red to,but painting the whole room is to much.Instead, leave one wall red and paint the other 3 walls a light gray.Get red, light gray and black accessories to bring it all together.Get black and gray checkered curtains and a neat black, gray and red area rug.Go to PlazaRugs.com,go to style, then geometrics. If you want ideas on decorating go to teensthemes.com,on the right side click boys themed rooms. This site will give you ideas on how to pull a look together with accessories.Good luck and I hope this helps.

  6. Ok! How about a love seat sleeper sofa. He can pull it out at night for sleeping and in the morning, leave the sheets on, push it in,put the cushions on and put the blanket on the back. So when he has friends over, it is like a little studio. The red is dark, but I wouldn't want to prime and paint it either. How about some wall shelves to help break up the red and diplay his things.
