Help me solve the mystery of the eggs in my yard!!!?

I came home late Thursday night to find an egg broken on my front step. It was not like someone tried to egg me because there was no mess on the house. It was as if the egg was dropped by someone (or something) standing directly in front of my door.

Today I go outside and there are 3 more eggs in my yard. All are unbroken. These eggs could not have been dropped as they are flawless. No cracks. Absolutely perfect eggs!

These eggs are identical to chicken eggs like in the store. They are pure bright white and the same size as a chicken egg.

Any idea how thay got in my yard???

  1. could it be the notorious Easter Bunny leaving you some late treats lol Just a little humour this has me baffled if it was at my house I would blame a few neighbours on a late April fools joke

  2. crack em open. if they look like chicken eggs.. they probably are.

if you see what kinda looks like a real live fetus... um.. pigeon eggs rolled off your roof, or seagulls or something. eggs can withstand alot, ever tried to crush one with your hand?

  3. I'm thinking it's human involvement.

  4. Do you have a cat or dog? Possibly a neighborhood raccoon or skunk stealing eggs and leaving them for you. Strangely, animals do leave gifts.  With cats it's usually dead mice or birds, but on rare occasions, eggs.  With dogs it's usually bones, and they would probably l**k up broken eggs, but any of those animals might be storing them in your yard for later like a bone. They probably got them out of someone's trash, unless you have a chicken house or small ducks in your neighborhood.

  5. Hi,

I think someone is winding you up a bit - suspect good freinds, not stangers !

Birds will not choose a doorstep or yard to lay eggs.

Nor do they lay in flight.

If the shells are clean, they came from a shop.

If they have a bit of bird poo on them, they are straight from the critter

Thing to do to get a bit of your own back would be to put up a little sign > "FRESH EGGS FOR SALE"

    or similar

    Then see what happens !

  6. It's possible a chicken laid them.

At certain times of the year, chickens sneak off to lay fertile eggs and raise a brood. They've got wise to the idea that we steal the eggs from nestboxes - so they sneak off at night.

If any more appear, leave them be, but go out at night with a torch and see who'se sitting on them!

Fertile eggs will keep for 2 weeks, so the hen is probably just adding to them daily - when there is about a dozen, she will sit  and start incubating them all in one go.

Some breeds of chicken lay white eggs.
