we already know that during transcription,only one of the two starnds of DNA is used as template for mRNA synthesis.if u are given an mRNA molecule,design an experiment to determine which of the DNA strands is the template strand

Transcription occurs, beginning nearer to the 3' end of the molecule, and working towards the 5' end.

Say your mRNA sequence is this:

CCC GAA UCG UUA

Then the template DNA would have to include the sequence:

GGG CTT AGC AAT

because of the way the nitrogenous bases align.

The corresponding DNA strand would have to contain the sequence:

CCC GAA TCG TTA
