And that little black squiggly thing is the square root.

And it does go over x-34.

Please help me solve it?

  1. Okay. Here's how to do it. You just need to remember that you're trying to get the x alone on one side, and you always have to do the same thing to both sides of the equation.

Subract 7 from both sides. 38/5 = 7 and 3/5. this leaves the square root of (x-34) over five = 3/5.

Multiply both sides by 5. square root of (x-34) = 3.

Then, square both sides of the equation. Squaring eliminates the square root. Thus, you have x - 34 = 9.

Add 34 to both sides and you have your answer. x = 43.
