  1. ok ...i'll help you make the right equations ...then you do the math

    let's consider one of the dimensions is A and the other is B.....since the rug covered half the area then the main equation is

    A×B=24  ..........1

    then we consider each equal widthes of the strip of visible floor is c

    then we make two equations the first is

    A=2C+3..................2

    the second one is

    B=2C+4........3

    then you use the values of A and B in the equation A×B=24 ....

    you get  the value of C  then you use the value in the equation number 2 to get the value of A which is one of the dimensions....and you use the value of C in  the equation number 2 to get the value of B

  2. The dimensions are 5.425m by 4.425m.

    The total area of the room is 5.425m X 4.425m = 24.01 meters squared.  The area of the rug is 3m X 4m = 12.0 meters squared.  Subtract the rug area from the room area (24.01 - 12.0), the result is 12.01, which is close enough to being "half the area".  The strips of floor are 0.7125m all around from the rug.  The length is 0.7125m + 3m + 0.7125m, which equals 4.425m.  The length is 0.7125m + 4m +0.7125m, which equals 5.425m.

  3. the living room is 6 x 4 meters.
