Help me understand length contraction?

  1. When you're moving close to the speed of light, relative mass is increasing as the energy of the particle increases greatly. This extra mass warps the space time around the object, scrunching it up on a smaller scale than say a star or black hole might. Since it's scrunched inward, the "ruler" used to measure length changes as well. While traveling at a constant speed, the distance appears shorter between places since space time is scrunched up. Instead of travelling the whole length of a flat spacetime, you only have to travel along the edges.
