Hey Im in Hamilton, Ont. I want to start my volunteer hours. I found that I can at St. Peter's Hospital but they want like police check, references and resume if possible. Like I need other options in volunteering because this seems too complicated of a process. Like where specifically in Hamilton can I volunteer don't just post like soup kitchen or something. 1. Ask your church or school. They will probably have a list of people who need volunteers. You may have to suck it up and go through the police check. It's pretty common these days, with the need for butt coverage and child protection.  Sorry I can't be more specific, but I'm in Ohio, not Hamilton, On.

  2. I'm in the USA but check out animal shelters, habitat for humanity, the library, museums, zoos,

  3. If you are going to have unsupervised contact with clients of an organization, you are going to have to undergo a police check, to ensure that you have not been arrested for anything relating to hurting or exploiting others, particularly children. Most places are going to ask for you to at least fill out an application and include references -- they have to protect their clients and operations, and they have to make sure you are a person of good character. So please be patient with these all-important, absolutely necessary screening processes.

  4. Just give them what they're asking for.  The FIRST thing you need to know about volunteering is that volunteering is not about YOU.

Congratulations.  You've already started to learn from your volunteer experience.
